About The Firearms Coalition

E-mail Print PDF

Founded on July 4th, 1984 by legendary hero of the gun rights movement, Neal Knox, The Firearms Coalition is, as the name implies, a coalition of organizations and individuals committed to the restoration and defense of firearms civil rights.  The Coalition comprises over 3000 individual members and almost 1000 member organizations.  Member organizations include gun clubs, industry groups, grassroots activist organizations, college and company shooting and political clubs, and other hunting, shooting, and special interest political organizations comprised of anywhere from a handful of members to hundreds or thousands in each organization.

The Firearms Coalition operates under the following set of foundational principles which guide our activism:

  1. A Sacred Right: The right to self-defense, and the right to arms with which to effectively secure that right, are basic human rights closely tied to the rights of Life and Liberty and should be limited in only the most extreme of circumstances.

  2. Do No Harm: The Firearms Coalition will never trade one right for another or abandon one class of firearm or gunowner in favor of another in the name of expediency, practicality, or political correctness.

  3. Shoot for Perfection, Accept Every Gain: The ultimate objective of the gun rights movement must always be the unencumbered right to arms.  Every incremental movement away from restrictive and intrusive gun laws is progress toward that objective and The Firearms Coalition will always support efforts to make the most possible progress while opposing any moves toward more restrictive and/or intrusive gun laws.

  4. Work Together Toward Common Goals: The Firearms Coalition believes that it is natural and expected that strong-willed people will approach issues differently and reach different conclusions about strategy and tactics, but final decisions are always better when numerous ideas are offered and argued. True leadership nurtures this diversity of opinion and uses it to advantage.  In that spirit, The Firearms Coalition will vigorously debate strategy and tactics with our fellows, but we will never demean, deride, or make personal attacks.

These are our principles and our pledge.  If you agree, please join us and add the power of your voice to our growing legions.

Neal Knox called The Coalition "more a state of mind than an organization."  If you agree with our guiding principles, you're already part of The Coalition.  We invite you to sign up so we can count you among our activists.  There is no cost to be added to the official roll, have access to basic member areas of the web site, and receive our occasional email alerts.  This is true for individuals and organizations alike.  So individual members are encouraged to invite the clubs and organizations to which they belong to officially join The Firearms Coalition too.  Organizations which register with The Coalition receive the added benefit of having access to, and reprint rights for most Firearms Coalition articles and research papers for use in club newsletters, bulletins, and web sites.

By making a financial commitment to The Firearms Coalition, a member moves up to Executive Membership status and is entitled to receive our semi-monthly newsletter, the Hard Corps Report, as well as gain access to restricted areas of the web site including archives of the Hard Corps Report and pre-publication review of The Knox Report, which appears in each issue of Shotgun News.  Executive Member organizations may access and publish these The Knox Report columns in hard copy before they are available anywhere else.  There are other advantages to Executive Membership and these will continue to expand and grow as The Coalition and technology advance.  Other membership levels and opportunities are under development and will be made available in the near future.

Numbers matter in politics.  Politicians win or lose based on the number of people who vote for them.  Voters are swayed by the number of people working on a politician’s campaign.  Politicians are swayed by the number of people pledged to vote and work for or against them in the next campaign.  Our numbers represent voters and campaign workers and as our numbers grow, so does our influence on Capitol Hill and in state legislatures.  Lending your voice to us gives you a stronger voice.  Be Loud!  Join The Firearms Coalition.  Encourage your friends to join The Firearms Coalition.  Convince your club or activist organization to join The Firearms Coalition.  One voice, combined with thousands or millions of other individual voices, can not only be heard around the world, it can be heard in Washington, DC!

Join The Firearms Coalition and Speak Up!
